About the event

The aim of this session is to help you to understand how to complete job applications to give you the best chance of securing an interview.

By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  • Understand why employers use job application forms
  • Outline how to prepare for completing a job application
  • Analyse  job adverts and select essential and desirable criteria
  • Recognise the importance of tailoring applications
  • Demonstrate how to follow instructions
  • List the information needed for a job application form
  • Understand how to write effective personal statements
  • Give an example of how to answer competency based questions
  • Identify the dos and don’ts of completing paper application forms
  • Review application forms and select candidates for interview
  • Understand how applications are sifted
  • Answer application tests and questionnaires correctly
  • Complete an impressive application form or online application

New referrals to Scottish Government’s national Fair Start Scotland (FSS) employability service have ended.

 

Current Fair Start Scotland customers will continue to receive the full range of employability support they need from StartScotland to move into work, which could include up to 18 months pre-work and up to 12 months in work support (depending on your circumstances). 

 

From 1 April 2024, No One Left Behind, Scottish Government & Local Governments’ shared approach to delivering an all-age, place-based, person-centred model of employability support in Scotland, will receive referrals previously referred to StartScotland.
