A 19 year old man from Kilmarnock, Scott Stirrat, has secured his first full-time job thanks to the support of StartScotland.

Why Scott joined the Fair Start Scotland service

Scott's had jobs before before but due to temporary contracts and living in an extremely remote location he'd been unable to sustain work on a long-term basis and found himself unemployed.

Scott heard about our support and our connections with well-known and respected employers in the area so signed up for the service.

How Fair Start Scotland helped

Scott was teamed up with Personal Adviser, Sandra Grubb, who set up an informal meeting with Scott. Just to get to know him and his ambitions so that she could build a package of support accordingly.

Scott was pretty flexible about the type of work he'd like to do so Sandra helped him looked at plenty of options including apprenticeships, funding for a HGV licence, vacancies and more. Regular support with completing applications and preparing for interviews had Scott beginning the feel more positive about his prospects. And then the perfect opportunity came along.

Getting a job

Our Employer Services Team, who work closely with local employers to source the right opportunities for our participants, referred Scott to a great Customer Service role with Timpson's. It was a fantastic opportunity as the role was permanent, full-time and with an established family business.

Scott met with the Timpson's Area Manager for an interview and clearly made a great impression. They called the next day with a job offer. After a successful work trial, he's now a familiar face at Timpson's Ayr branch.

Well done, Scott!
